CONSTITUTION
Article I: Name of Organization
The name of this organization shall be the Engineers Without Borders at PSU.
Article II: Affiliations
Engineers Without Borders at PSU is affiliated with Engineers Without Borders USA.
Article III Purpose
3.1 The mission statement of Engineers Without Borders-USA is “to partner with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through implementation of environmentally sound and economically sustainable engineering projects, while developing internationally responsible engineering students.”
3.2 The purpose of this organization is to unite students in the common interest(s) of using our skills and resources as students and engineers to help carry out the mission of EWB-USA through creation of infrastructure and related public health support. With our projects we will further the PSU vision to utilize the strength of our education through outreach and “community engagement that contributes to the economic vitality, environmental sustainability, and quality of life in the Portland region and beyond.” We will promote interdisciplinary involvement in our projects. We will encourage our faculty to become involved in our projects and incorporate aspects of projects in our curriculum and/or course content, as a means of integrating service learning and social responsibility into the engineering education at PSU. We will work with the professional engineering community and EWB professional chapters, asking them to sponsor and mentor projects, and will share resources with them.
Article IV: Members
4.1. Any currently registered student at PSU may become a member of this organization. Any student wishing to become a member of this organization may do so by providing the organization (secretary or President) with the student's name and current mailing address, email, or phone number. Once this information is received, the student shall become a member with the same privileges which are held by all members. A student maintains member status as long as the student is registered at PSU.
4.2. If community members wish to be active with the group, they may do so as a non-voting member.
4.3. All voting members and officers of Engineers Without Borders AT PSU must be currently enrolled students at Portland State University and pay student fees.
4.4. Membership shall not be denied to any student on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, disability, and disabled veteran or Vietnam era veteran status.
